SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA - LG Corporation and Samsung Electronics, two of South Korea's mobile and tech giant companies, are going to unveil their new flagship smartphones, aiming to boost more growth as they compete with other leading rivals in the industry of smartphones.

LG Corporation will go with their new LG G5 while Samsung Electronics will have their recent Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. These two anticipated smartphones will be introduced on Feb. 21, a day before the 4-day Mobile World Congress, the world's biggest mobile exhibition, in Barcelon, Spain.

According to The Korea Herald, it is a rare occurrence for the two companies to launch their products on the same day as it proves how they can be desperate to stay ahead of the strong competition in the business of smartphones.

Apparently, Samsung Electronics maintained its position as the world's largest maker of smartphones in 2015 as it was able to ship about 324.8 million mobile phones.

Apple Inc. came after with 231.5 million shipped phones, Huawei with 106.6 million units, Lenovo with 77 million phones and Chinese brand Xiaomi got the fifth place with 70.8 million shipped phones. This data came from International Data Corporation (IDC), a market research firm based in Massachusetts.

Although it was one of the top three big players that made up of Samsung and Apple, LG Corporation did not make it to the top five since it had reportedly sold 59.7 million smrtphones only.

"Usually the conversation in the smartphone market revolves around Samsung and Apple, but Huawei's strong showing for both the (fourth) quarter and the year (2015) shows how much it has grown as an international brand," said senior research manager Melissa Chau of IDC.

She also projected Chinese mobile phone Huawei, which just got into the global market scene, has been able to attract more consumers, solidifying its position to be the third world's biggest manufacturer of smartphones.

Competition is not the only challenge the South Korean companies are dealing. They also have to deal with their slow growth sales while Chinese competitors are having more edge as their sales are surging with double digit growth rates.
