Google announced its new initiative called Google Station which aims to bring better Wi-Fi connection to the public in September 2016. And now it looks like the tech company has decided the location of its first Google Station.

Google Station will have its first location in the city of Pune which is about 150km south-east of Mumbai. It will become the first place in the world to have Google deploy fast internet hotspots in public spaces as part of its Google Station project.

The first Google Station will see a partnership of several companies. IT giant Larsen& Toubro, state internet service provider RailTel and IBM form a consortium to raise $22.2 million which will be used to transform Pune into a smart city starting with the construction of the first Google Station. According to a report from The Economic Times, IBM will provide smart city solutions while internet service provider RaiTel will help with the deployment of high quality internet.

According to a Google spokesperson, the goal of the Google Station comes with the idea of creating a great internet for the next billion users. Google believes that providing high quality internet connection plays a critical role in bringing the benefits of the internet to millions of Indians.

With Google Station, the tech company aims to bring affordable and fast internet connectivity to the public with the help of businesses. The company also has plans to expand the partnership to help them secure high quality, and accessible internet with minimal trouble.

India seems to be the perfect place to reap the benefits of free internet. According to Caesar Sengupta, Google's VP for the next billion users, 15,000 people in India get to experience the internet for the first time everyday with Google's railway Wi-Fi hotspots.

Even with the advancement of technology and the internet, only half of the world's population has access to the internet. Google new initiative with Wi-Fi station will certainly help with the problem.
