South Korea once again topped the ranking of countries with regards to Internet connection speed as revealed by a quarterly survey last Tuesday. It can be recalled that the country has been providing its people with fast and reliable Internet connection.

The average Internet connection speed in South Korea stood at 26.1 Mbps throughout the fourth quarter of the previous year. Because of this, South Korea has been considered as the only country which has a speed of over 25 Mbps. This was also presented by the online content delivery network company Akamai Korea.

South Korea has topped the ranking of Akamai Korea for its 12 consecutive quarter. Norway was in the second place with a connection speed of 23.6 Mbps, then Sweden with 22.8 Mbps, followed by Hong Kong with 21.9 Mbps and Switzerland with 21.2 Mbps as per Korea Times.

It has been noted too that the world's average Internet connection was at 7 Mbps for the fourth quarter and this has been increased to 26 percent from a quarter earlier.

Akamai which is an Internet platform used by most websites to guarantee high-quality streaming collects data from up to 200 trillion content request which the company gains each quarter.

Meanwhile, the United Sates did not make it in Top 10 ranking only at 16th with a connection speed of 15.3 Mbps but it rose compared to the previous quarter. As reported by USA Today, there were several factors which have been seen that made the U.S. lagging behind other countries.

One of these pointed factors includes geography. South Korea has more people residing in higher density places such as locations and cities where it is easier and simpler for Internet providers to deliver high-speed internet to the large population.

In the United States where there are more people living in rural areas, it is much harder and even expensive to provide high-speed Internet connection. South Korea simply led the way in terms of Internet connection speed.
